What you’ll need to clean glass

  1. Salt (Course or rock salt does better) - Salt is used as an abrasive.
  2. Isopropyl Alcohol - Isopropyl will help to dissolve the resin that gunks up your piece, the higher the percentage on the bottle, the better.
  3. Zip Lock Bag - this or a plastic container helps to protect glass while allowing it to soak in the salt and alcohol mixture.

What you’ll need to clean titanium

  1. Just a camp fire. You could use the same method as described below, but titanium completely simplifies the cleaning process. Let the heat burn off the resinous material and you're good!

How to clean your pipe

  1. Prepare your container

You'll want to add about 250ml of isopropyl alcohol and 50g of salt to your zip lock or whatever other container you choose.

  2. Let your piece soak

Place your piece in the alcohol solution. You can agitate the solution to ensure the isopropyl reaches the internal chambers of our piece. Let your piece soak, a few minutes is fine, but the longer the better.

  3. Agitate and repeat

Getting stubborn clogs out of your pipe can be tricky, toothpicks or twigs may help clear a stubborn blockage, but can also break inside your bowl and that's a hassle. Continue shaking the bag to allow the iso to break down the debris in your pipe. With enough time it should come out ready for the trail.

  4. Rinse thoroughly

Once you're happy with the cleanliness of your bowl, rinse it with warm water. Make sure to completely clean your piece of any isopropyl as it is flammable and harmful to breathe.

  5. Enjoy

Get out and enjoy your newly cleaned piece!

Match the method to the material

Cleaning a pipe is fairly simple on paper, but anyone who has had to clean a well-loved bowl knows it's a pain. That's why we find titanium such an innovation in bowl cleaning. Simply toss it into the fire, and let the heat burn away unwanted debris. Once the bowl is cool, you're good to go.

A couple of common questions

How often should you clean a pipe?

Typically, you'll know you need to clean it because it will be hard to hit, or the resin inside will create an unpleasant taste while smoking.

Where can I get the materials you listed?

Any convenience store, or supermarket would have the materials needed to clean a pipe.

What if my piece doesn't fit in a bag?

Larger pieces can act as their own container. Fill your piece with alcohol and seal it. Let the dirty parts of your piece soak with iso and salt. Rinse out your piece and it should smoke likew new.
